Family Tradition

21 04 2012

Family, friends and great food.  Tonight, Amy is at home surrounded by all three.  Not just any kind of food but authentic German Cuisine from Metzger’s German Restaurant in Ann Arbor, MI.  It’s a family tradition that began as far back as she can remember.  Making the journey from Farmington Hills to Ann Arbor when she was a child could sometimes feel like endless hours in the car.  But when Amy took her first bite into a Schnitzel, well, she knew it was worth the trip.  And so tonight, that family tradition continues.  Amy, Don, Theo, Amy’s sisters Julie and Lisa, brother-in-law Dave, niece Emily, nephew Zach, as well as a few special friends, all gathered around the dining room table for this wonderful feast.  German Schnitzel’s, Bratwurst, German potato salad and sauerkraut filled the house with a festive smell.   Together they are making this tradition a part of Theo’s life that he too can one day share with his family.

Amy is resting as much as she can and enjoying visits with family and friends.  She is using all her strength to fight.   She needs our prayers and support more than ever and she continues to be humbled by how many wonderful people she has in her life and how much kindness is out there in the world.  We are all truly blessed to have her in our lives.

On behalf of Amy and her family, we thank you for keeping Amy near and dear to your heart.

Keeping the faith,

Kristi Rugh Kahl

Oh YUM!!! Having grown up in a German household, this sounds like one of our regular celebraton meals. Grama grew up making sausage, sauerkraut, etc. So, our meals were a labor of love and a teaching time for the younger generation. Mmmmm, my mouth is watering just thinking back……
Amy, you are in my daily meditations, and deeply in my heart.
Blessed Be

There is nothing in this world as wonderful as having a great dinner with family. Wish we could be there to help support you and your loved ones.
We had a birthday dinner with Kelly and family yesterday, and little Addison (2 1/2 yrs) said, “Gramps, you have your Amy bracelet on.” You are always in our hearts and prayers. We love you……Mom & Richard

Hi Kristi and Amy and your family, I haven’t heard from you on the blog siince your wonderful food family and friends post.
Thinking of you and sending you smiles, prayers and hugs from my family to yours. We have never met but I’ve been following your blog for quite a while. You are an inspiration to me and so many others. Your love as a mother and wife is so beautiful to read about. As mom to a little one myself I know how precious this love is. I know you are having a hard and frustrating fight right now, and I wish you much strength in this. You have done so much to educate the world about hereditary and Stage 4 breast cancer. Please accept my love and prayers. (( big hugs))
